Shulamit Nazarian Gallery: Project Room

"We are the Hollow Men"

January 22 – March 14, 2015

The show's title references T. S. Eliot’s poem, written on the cusp of an earlier wave of modernization, which interprets the “new order” as a vitiating force, robbing individuals of their potency, will, and sense of self. This presentation examines technology’s pervasive presence on contemporary society and how it may affect our privacy, agency, spirit and identity.

Again, we are fast becoming Eliot’s “hollow men… the stuffed men / Leaning together / Headpiece filled with straw…” - Miri Chais

The installation features paintings, video, sound, sculpture and new media works in the project space with individual works throughout the gallery as an extension of the artist's solo exhibition at the USC Fisher Museum of Art.
