DANIEL is a creative collaboration with Daniel Agami, a female dancer in Israel’s most established dance company, Bat Sheva.
Chais directed the dancer’s movements and with a camera attempted to delineate her gestures—a methodology unlike Eadweard Muybridge’s studies of bodies in motion.
Taking hundreds of still images, the artist drew and reassembled the outlines of the dancer’s body and her ever-changing flexibility and repetition, creating a mutating yet static image.
The resulting series are the forensic remains of this experimental case study.
